Blackstreet is an American R&B group founded in 1991 by record producers Chauncey Hannibal and Teddy Riley. The group released four albums through Interscope Records between 1994 and 2003 and achieved commercial recognition with the 1996 single "No Diggity", featuring Dr Dre and Queen Pen, which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for four weeks. The band’s debut album "Blackstreet" produced the singles "Booti Call", "Before I Let You Go", and "Joy". Both "Booti Call" and "Before I Let You Go" reached the Top 40 in the United States, with the latter entering the Top 10. The follow-up album "Another Level", released in 1996, became their most commercially successful release and included "No Diggity", which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1998, the group received the Grammy Awards for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. "Another Level" reached number three on the Billboard album chart and was certified four-times platinum in the United States. The song "No Diggity" was later ranked number 91 on a list of the 100 greatest pop songs compiled by Rolling Stone and MTV. The lineup during this period included Mark Middleton and Eric Williams, who replaced Dave Hollister and Levi Little. Before joining the group, Middleton had been a member of Brik Citi, and Williams performed with The Flex. The success of "Another Level" led to guest participation on "The City Is Mine" by Jay Z, as well as the single "Take Me There" with Mya and Mase for the soundtrack to "The Rugrats Movie", and appearances on the reunion tour for New Edition. The group later released the album "Finally", which reached the Top 10, and included the single "Girlfriend/Boyfriend", a collaboration with Janet Jackson featuring Ja Rule and Eve. Following work by Riley with Guy and plans for a solo project, members reconciled and re-formed the lineup that recorded "Another Level", resulting in the album "Level II". After subsequent hiatuses, members pursued solo careers before former members Hannibal, Levi Little, Mark Middleton, and Eric Williams reunited under the Blackstreet name in 2014 and resumed live performances, including an Australian tour in 2015. In the same year, Middleton and Williams served as backing vocalists for "Autumn Leaves", performed by Daniel Kajmakoski in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Group associate Joseph Stonestreet died on 25 June 2018 at the age of 56. In 2025, writer Jeff Mezydlo included the band in a list of underrated 1990s groups published by Yardbarker.
