Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll (born 11 September 1991), known professionally as Kygo, is a Norwegian record producer. He first received international attention with his December 2013 remix of the song "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran and his December 2014 single "Firestone" featuring Conrad Sewell. In late 2015, he became the fastest artist to reach one billion streams on Spotify, and by June 2016 he had reached two billion streams. He also achieved commercial success with the singles "Stole the Show" (2015), "Here for You" (2015), "Stay" (2015), "It Ain't Me" featuring Selena Gomez (2017), a remix of "Higher Love" (2019), a remix of "What's Love Got to Do with It" (2020), and the singles "Whatever" and "For Life" from his self-titled album "Kygo" (2024). His debut album "Cloud Nine" was released on 13 May 2016. Kygo became the first house music producer to perform at an Olympic closing ceremony in August 2016 at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In March 2018, Billboard ranked him third on its Dance 100 list of dance music artists. In the same year, he was ranked 32 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs list, and in October 2019 he was ranked 42. The stage name Kygo is a portmanteau derived from the first two letters of his first and last name, with the Norwegian letter ø replaced by o. It originated as a username on the itslearning school platform during his education. Kyrre Gørvell-Dahll was born on 11 September 1991 in Singapore to Norwegian parents and raised in Bergen, Norway. He is the son of Kjersti Gjerde, a dentist, and Lars Gørvell-Dahll, who worked in the maritime industry abroad. He has an older stepbrother named Mads, two older sisters named Johanne and Jenny, and a younger half-brother named Sondre. During his childhood, he lived in several countries including Brazil, Japan, Kenya, and Egypt. He began taking piano lessons at age six and has described himself as more of a pianist than a DJ. He stopped playing piano at around age 15 or 16 and began producing music using Logic Studio and a MIDI keyboard after learning from online tutorials. While studying business and finance at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, he decided to pursue music full-time. He has cited Avicii as a major influence. Kygo released his first single "Epsilon" in May 2013 via Ensis Records. He gained international recognition with "Firestone" in December 2014, which brought him widespread streaming success and led to collaborations and remix requests from artists including Avicii and Chris Martin of Coldplay. He also performed as a supporting act for Avicii at the Findings Festival in Oslo in 2014. In September 2014, it was announced that he would replace Avicii on the main stage at Tomorrowland due to Avicii’s health issues. During this period he also signed record deals with Sony Music and Ultra Music and entered partnerships including a charity collaboration with Electric Family supporting Médecins Sans Frontières. In 2015 he released "Stole the Show" featuring Parson James, followed by "Nothing Left" featuring Will Heard, "Here for You" featuring Ella Henderson, and "Stay" featuring Maty Noyes. By the end of 2015 he had become the fastest artist to reach one billion streams on Spotify. In 2016 he released "Coming Over" with Dillon Francis and James Hersey and announced his debut album "Cloud Nine", which included promotional singles such as "Fragile" featuring Labrinth, "Raging" featuring Kodaline, and "I'm In Love" featuring James Vincent McMorrow. The album was released in May 2016, and he also launched Kygo Life AS, a lifestyle brand offering clothing and audio products. In August 2016 he performed "Carry Me" with Julia Michaels at the closing ceremony of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. In 2017 he released "It Ain't Me" with Selena Gomez, which became one of his most commercially successful songs and was included on the EP "Stargazing". He also released "First Time" with Ellie Goulding and later that year released his second studio album "Kids in Love", which included songs such as "Remind Me to Forget" featuring Miguel and "Stranger Things" featuring OneRepublic. In 2018 he released "Born to Be Yours" with Imagine Dragons and "Happy Now" with Sandro Cavazza, and co-founded Palm Tree Records with his manager Myles Shear. In 2019 he released "Think About You" featuring Valerie Broussard, "Carry On" with Rita Ora for the film "Detective Pikachu", and "Not OK" with Chelsea Cutler, and also released "Kem kan eg ringe" with Store P and Lars Vaular. In the same year he released a remix of Whitney Houston’s "Higher Love", which became a major posthumous success. In 2020 he released his third studio album "Golden Hour", which included collaborations such as "Like It Is", "I'll Wait", "Lose Somebody", and "The Truth". He also completed and released "Forever Yours", originally by Avicii, with permission from Avicii’s family, and released remixes of "What's Love Got to Do with It" and "Hot Stuff". From 2021 he released singles including "Gone Are the Days", "Love Me Now", "Undeniable", "Dancing Feet", "Freeze", "Never Really Loved Me", "Lost Without You", and "Woke Up in Love", and in 2022 released his fourth studio album "Thrill of the Chase". In 2023 he released a remix of "Say Say Say" by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. In 2024 he released "Whatever" featuring Ava Max and "For Life" featuring Zak Abel and Nile Rodgers, and released his fifth studio album "Kygo", marking ten years of his career. The album included additional singles such as "Without You", "Me Before You", "Stars Will Align" with Imagine Dragons, "Hold On Me" with Sandro Cavazza, "Chasing Paradise" with OneRepublic, and "Can't Get Enough" with Victoria Nadine. In February 2026 he released "Save My Love".
